Independence Day, 2006

Today found us working in the morning and having off in the afternoon, better than working full days I guess.

Playing catch-up... We moved to CU (Champaign-Urbana) last August so I could start grad. school at the UIUC (University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign) in the electrical and computer engineering department.

Lately, we've been traveling quite a bit on weekends. Two and three weekends ago, we were back in Hubertus, WI visiting Chantal's family since Craig and the grandparents were there. It was a really fun time, and we both found it hard to go back to work afterward. Here's a picture. This coming weekend, we're going back to Madison for Tim & Melissa's wedding. (Yea friends & dancing.)

We've been working in our garden quite a bit recently. Things are really taking off, so the plants need quite a bit of work. We're going to have just a ton of tomatoes. If you're in the CU area and we know you, we're probably going to try to foist tomatoes on you.

Currently Chantal is working at the Humane Society and wants to bring home ALL the animals but mainly a hedgehog named Rocky. She's going to start her second semester in art & design, hoping to finish with an associates' in that and a general bachelor's degree in another 3 years. During the school year, she's been working at the art gallery at Parkland.

I'm currently a 50% RA (Research Assistant, not residential assistant, I prefer Chantal to living in the dorms.) with Prof. Yih-Chun Hu, working on wireless network security. I've got a year in in grad. school, hopefully only 3.5 more to go. I'm hoping to take my Ph.D. qualifying exam this coming semester, or year at worst.

We're really looking forward to our vacation in North Carolina with friends in August. We're hoping to see Craig then too since we'll be relatively close.

For an obligatory picture, here we are on top of Table Mountain in Cape Town, S.A. during our honeymoon.
